Pierre (P.D.) Descant

  Born in Louisiana, the youngest son of 14 children, Pierre D. Descant was raised on a plantation along Bayou Rouge near Cottonport, in Avoyelles Parish.

  His early recollections of music were evenings spent around the piano in the parlor, singing and playing the old songs of his family.

  Not content just to sing, Descant bought his first guitar with the money he earned from picking cotton.

  Upon retiring from the Coast Guard in 1966, Descant took advantage of his G.I. Bill and went to Delgado Community College in New Orleans to learn to play the string bass. (In addition to these two instruments, he plays accordion, fiddle, harmonica, and piano.)

  He started his band in 1978 "The Cajun Fiddler Band" and can be heard every Saturday from 2 to 5pm at the Treasure Chest Casino in Kenner, Louisiana.
